FASHION IS IN THE SKY, IN THE STREET

Fashion is not something that exists in dresses only.

Fashion photography is everywhere. You will see hundreds of images a day of men and women dressed-up (or down), showcasing clothing, accessories, and footwear. Focuses more on portraiture, posing, extensive lighting, and beautiul locations. Shooting fashion photography is no small feat. There is a lot of research involved in finding the right person to photograph and then posing the model. Having a team behind you lets you focus on the model. Depending on what you are photographing and for who, your team will vary. Research and use mood boards for inspiration so you have a clear idea of what you want on the day. Communicate with the team and the model beforehand so they also have time to prepare.

DRESS HOW YOU WANT TO BE ADDRESSED

Portfolios of potential models will tell us their variety of styles and looks. Communication and clearly defined guidelines are very important. This cuts down on conflicts in the future over who expects what from the shoot. The composition is very important in any style or genre of photography. It can be the saving grace to any of your shoots.

They allow the subjects and settings to look more interesting and professional compared to a quickly snapped image. We use composition to enhance the subject and to guide the viewer’s focus.

A lot of research will be needed to find out exactly what you want to show with your images. Is there a mood or feeling you would like to portray? Well, the poses need to fit into those atmospheres. Hands are an interesting area to work with as they could be doing anything, anywhere.

STREET STYLE

Street style involves taking portraits of well-dressed strangers on the streets. Street style photos often look like regular portraits or paparazzi shots. Others like to take photos as the moment happens. In normal situations, street style photographers don’t plan their shoot in advance. Instead, they look for sense of spontaneity.

OUTFIT OF THE DAY

O.O.T.D. is a great way to create content for social media and fashion blogs. This particular style is an informal way of documenting clothing. A lot of the images of this kind involve simple backgrounds such as city streets or even bedroom walls. The clothes featured in O.O.T.D.s often belong to the wearer.

LOOK BOOK

A lookbook is a way to show people different ways to wear clothes. Instead of a plain background, it often features an authentic location. Doing so allows people to imagine what they’d look like in everyday situations. Fashion brands often use both catalogues and lookbooks when marketing their products.

CATALOG PHOTOGRAPHY

Catalog style is used by companies that print to market their products to their consumers. This is basically an information image where the model is made to pose against a certain background and you see the clothes very clearly.

Our styling is hassle-free, and we choose backgrounds, which is normally white or gray in such a way that the details of the clothes are visible. Most of these photographs are shot in studios or another ideal location.

HIGH FASHION PHOTOGRAPHY

Big fashion brands and labels often advertise their products using this style of photography. The photographs generally feature supermodels, famous actors and actresses. The clothes and accessories featured are often styled in a way that is a complete departure from reality.

The poses can be exaggerated and over-the-top. All elements of the model; the wardrobe, styling, hair/makeup, lighting and location work together to create a flawless image.

URBAN FASHION

This genre represents the opposite of high fashion. It showcases wardrobes that people like to wear every day. Street fashion has a more rugged look. It’s all about shirts, jeans, hoodies, and other fashion articles you often see people use in urban areas. It also includes dresses and casual outfits that emphasize elegance without sacrificing comfort.

ALTERNATIE FASHION

Alternative fashion doesn’t always appear in big magazines. But photography is still a big part of helping these trends spread. It doesn’t depend on traditional publications. Instead, it relies on alternative media and online sources. One of the most popular portals for alternative fashion are street style blogs. These sites document the current trends as they develop and evolve on the streets.

EDITORIAL FASHION

Series of images spanning a few pages can be seen in fashion magazines. It shows the glamorous lifestyle involved in wearing different fashion brands. In a way, a fashion editorial is like reading a story but through visuals and not words. Fashion editorials revolve around a theme. Its primary function is to feature clothes in different scenarios.
